A host of problems failed to make Him miserable – Pujya Bapuji
Sri Krishna had imbibed Vedic knowledge, and he lead such an exalted spiritual life that even atheists acknowledged him as the King among Yogis, the creast-jewel among masters of ethics and a great philosopher. Muslim saints like Rasakhan, Taj Begum, Rehana Tauyab and Rahum Khan khana experienced blessedness in their lives though singing his praises with devotion.
His exemplary life and divine sports (lilas) depict how he kept smiling while struggling with toughest problems. His parents were imprisoned and his six younger brothers were killed soon after their birth because he was going to incarnate, and he was born in a jail. Soon after his birth, Sri Krishna was born on the Ashtami, the eighth day of the month of Shravana, and on the 14th day of the same month, Putana a demoness suckled him with her breasts containing poison. When he was two months old, he had to encounter demons like Shakatasur, and Dhenukasur. He was swallowed by a demon Bakasur. At a young age, he had to graze cows. He had to bear slap from Toka; who was one of his friends. The whole kingdom of his maternal uncle Kamsa was against him. He compelled his enemies to retreat seventeen times; but he himself had to run away in the eighteenth combat. He lived with only one garment for a month. He secretly builds the city of Dwarka. He fought numberless calamities. But he did not give importance to such external calamities; so similarly, you should also not give any importance to such problems. Sri Krishna always remained established in his blissful nature; so should you d. he illumined his life with the torch of knowledge; so should you do.
Sri Krishna’s life, as depicted in the Mahabharta, shows that his life was full of tragedies, but there is no trace of grief in his life. Ever staying calm, cheerful and smiling, he went on singing songs of joy. Come, take them for real and carry the load of troubles on his head. He always danced on the hood of the serpent of troubles. Even during the terrible war of Mahabharata, he was happily playing flute. He was playing flute even when allegations were made against him. He was ever-minded, even when he was highly praised.
How should we live in times of pains and pleasures? How can we utilize pains and pleasures as means to our spiritual development? all this is written in the ‘Bhagwat Gita, the handbook of his experiences. Bhagwad Gita is a scripture containing the body of sacred knowledge as ‘remembered’ by Him (Smriti Grantha). It is not the scripture or book of nay religion or sect. Sri Krishna has given respect to intelligence (reason) in this book. No other religious scripture has given such a respect to reason. Gita teaches us to keep our mind free from the influence of all types of circumstances.
Many ups and downs came in Arjuna’s life; but the moment he expressed his problems to Sri Krishna, his despondency turned into ‘Vashada Yoga’ (The Yoga of despondency of Arjuna). Arjuna was sad, dejected and felt that he could not live. His mind was full of grief and he was depressed completely; but with Sri Krishna’s philosophy, inspiration, and guidance, Arjuna easily won the battle of Mahabharta. Sri Krishna mentions a profound truth to us to transcend both good and bad deeds. The path shown by Krishna is unique. When you lose money you become sad; and when you get money you become happy. But the Bhagwad Gita says that both gain and loss are in a dream only.
Sri Krishna is bliss-incarnate. He is free from any desire to eat favorite dish, to enjoy something, to do something or not to do something for pleasure. Therefore he was full of bliss at all times. Seeing Krishna full of unbounded bliss the cows, calves, cowherd boys and cowherd girls also became submerged in an ocean of bliss.
Sri Krishna was born from the womb of Devaki; but He loved Yashoda more than Devaki. Because Devaki gave birth to His physical body; but Yashoda heartily glorified Him. You can become a devotee like Yashoda. Now you may not be able to give birth to God from your womb, but you can make Him revealed in your heart. Enjoy every situation that you meet and thank God. When you glorify Him, your intellect will become ‘Yashoda’, one who glorifies. Your Self is Krishna without any doubt. Sri Krishna is not confined to the form He had assumed. The name ‘Krishna’ is found in Vedas that precede His incarnation. The all pervading indweller Self who charms and enraptures is called ‘Krishna’. Arjuna had attained the highest possible status that man can aspire and Lord Krishna was with him. He went to heaven with physical body (not by astral journey with the subtle body). He was so self-restrained that he refused the invitation of the most attractive celestial beauty, Urvashi who wanted to seduce him. In spite of Sri Krishna being Arjuna’s charioteer, his sorrows did not vanish. Then Sri Krishna said:
तमेव शरणं गच्छ सर्वभावेन भारत |
तत्प्रसादात्परां शान्ति स्थानं प्राप्स्यसि शाश्वतम ||
Lord Krishan said, “Fly unto Him for refuge with all your being, O Bharat; by His grace you shall obtain Supreme Peace and the Eternal abode.” (Gita: 18.62)
Whatever you do with the body, whatever you think with your mind and whatever you decide with your intellect, do it for Self-realization to get established in your essential nature Truth Absolute, Consciousness Absolute and Bliss Absolute in order to cross the oceans of all afflictions forever. You will attain Self-Knowledge like Arjuna. He said, “Destroyed is my delusion as I have now gained my memory (Knowledge)….’
Delusion means perversion of knowledge. We are not a body but we think “I am the body’. Delusion is the root of all ailments. In Ramayana, it is said –
मोह सकल व्याधिन्य कर मूला | तिन्ह ते पुनि उपजहिं बहु सूला ||
‘Delusion is the root of all ailments and from these again arise many other troubles….’
There are many techniques mentioned in the Gita to destroy delusion and wake up in our essential nature, Sat-Chat-Ananda.
How significant and mysterious is the incarnation of Sri Krishna! The purpose behind the celebration of His birthday on Janmashtami is not to glorify Him for making you His devotee but to make you equipped with His experience (of Krishna Consciousness) in your life, and become free from all miseries becoming a liberated soul, divine soul, established in Peace of Self. You can make your life exalted by learning something from the divine sports of Krishna; even if you belong to any religion or sect. Your presiding deity may be Krishna, Shiva or Rama; you can get benefit from the life of Sri Krishna. The celebration of Janmasthami aims at making your life stress-fee.
- From RishiPrasad –August 2013
On the holy eve of Janmastami, Sri Krishna himself incarnated on Night at 12. Janmastami Night , is one of the Mahaaraatris when doing Japa, Dhyan is uncountable times beneficial than on a normal day. Keeping fast on Janmastami is more than thousand times beneficial than Ekadashi fast. A person, who, on this day, worships Lord Krishna washes away his sins, either great or small, or performed in childhood, youth, or maturity, in seven births.
