The Glory of Janmashtami Vrata - Pujya Bapuji
Lord Bramha tells divine mother Saraswati, and Lord Krishna tells His dear devotee Uddhav, “One who observes the fast of Janmashtami attains religious merit equal to that obtained by observing crores of Ekadashi fasts. All his sorrows and diseases are destroyed.” Dharma, the god of the death says to Savitridevi. “Janmashtami Vrata destroys sins of hundred births.” Fasting increases one’s ability to endure hunger and thirst. This in turn increases one’s wallpaper. Control over senses helps one fulfill resolves. It boosts self-confidence; which helps him achieve material goals easily.
This does not mean that hearing the glory of this of this Vrata, diabetics or weak persons should observe a complete fast. Children, weak and old aged should take some fruits etc.
Safeguard from Death & Abortions
Bhavishaya Purana states that, ‘Janmashtami Vrata saves from untimely death. No spontaneous abortion takes place in the house of one observing Janmashtami fast. The foetus stays in mother’s womb till the end of third trimester and then a full-term baby is born.’
Religious Merit and Health Benefits
The Prasad of Panjiri (whole-wheat flour fried in sugar and ghee, laced with dried fruits and herbal gums) destroys Vata. Ajwain, cumin seeds and gur are its chief ingredients. In rainy season Vata is aggravated. So there is a custom of eating Panjiri. The digestive fire is mild in this season. Fasting stimulates digestive fire and the undigested foods and health is restored. By eating Panjiri, Vata disorders will be alleviated and by fasting.
One will get divine peace and diving bliss. And if one comes across a Self-realized Guru; who imparts divine knowledge, one will attain Self-Knowledge. Every festival in our culture is designed in such a way that your physical body remains in perfect health, your mind remains peaceful and your intelligence gets saturated with divine knowledge. Japa has done on the day of Janmasthmi gives infinitely more religious merits. Practice of meditation and japa keeping night vigil holds special significance.
-From Rishiprasad August-2013
On the holy eve of Janmastami, Sri Krishna himself incarnated on Night at 12. Janmastami Night , is one of the Mahaaraatris when doing Japa, Dhyan is uncountable times beneficial than on a normal day. Keeping fast on Janmastami is more than thousand times beneficial than Ekadashi fast.
